FMIT Alert Level 1: Tropical Depression Four Currently Struggling to Maintain Strength Against Dry Air & Wind Shear.

FMIT Alert Level 1
Low

Tropical Depression Four Currently Struggling to Maintain Strength Against Dry Air & Wind Shear. Expected to Weaken Significantly as it Moves West/NorthWest Through The Atlantic. Currently Not a Major Threat to FL; Will Continue to Monitor Throughout The Weekend.

Latest from National Hurricane Center:

“The cloud and convective structure of the depression appears more symmetrical compared to yesterday and last night as observed on latest satellite imagery. The imagery reveals scattered moderate to strong convection within 90 nm of the center in the north and northeast quadrants. Scattered moderate convection is within 75 nm of the center in the southeast and south quadrants. The depression is expected to maintain intensity through Saturday, then weaken to a post-tropical/remnant low late Saturday night”

FMIT Discussion:

  • Tropical Depression Four is located east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving West-Northwest at 22 mph.
  • Current satellite imagery shows signs that the circulation of the Depression is weakening. The system is also displaying a decreasing amount of thunderstorm activity.
  • Due to dry air and heavy wind shear, the system is expected to dissipate to remnants this weekend before reaching Florida.
  • We will continue to monitor Depression Four throughout the weekend and send additional alerts should the forecast change.

FMIT Member Preparedness Actions:

  • Members should continue to monitor the storm as well as FMIT Alerts and local/national weather forecasts.
